Crazy things happen when art meets politics. An Australian artist makes an already controversial mural even more controversial when told to censor his work.

  • The original mural was an enlarged version of a meme circulating on the internet which an Australian artist called Lushsux painted onto a wall in Melbourne.
  • The image showed Hillary Clinton in a revealing flag-print bathing suit.
  • When the authorities heard about this due to its increasing popularity, the artist was told he would be fined and prosecuted if it wasn’t taken down.
  • Then Instagram suspended the artist’s account. This provoked the artist to add dollar bills to the painting to imply that Instagram was paid off by Clinton. He said, “The dollar bills were in reaction to Instagram deleting my account a day after I posted Hillary. Quite strange timing?”
  • To avoid issues with the authorities, the artist then covered up the mural of Hillary with a burqa–traditionally used by Muslim women to hide their bodies in public.
  • The artist captioned the latest version of the mural on Instagram with the following statement: “This is no longer a wall of a supposed “offensive and near naked” Hillary Clinton, it is now a depiction of a beautiful Muslim woman. No reasonable person would consider this offensive. If you do consider it offensive you are a sexist, racist, islamophobic, xenophobic, uncultured and ignorant bigot.”

Here is the provocative original mural of Clinton before it was changed:

And here is the mural after it was covered up:

Hillary isn’t the only one with sexy images out in the world.

Melania Trump’s modeling photos have caused quite a stir this week, and the artist Lushsux has painted the Trumps too.

The artist has also made provocative murals of Donald Trump, and his wife Melania. This one of Trump includes Clinton’s face being used to censor part of the image.

I don’t know if I made it more offensive or less?
