PARIS HERO DOG ‘DIESEL’ RECEIVES HONOR MEDAL

Diesel, the French police dog that was killed in a raid after the Paris attacks is now being honoured with the PDSA Dickin Medal.

The honour is the animal equivalent of the Victoria Cross, the highest military decoration awarded for valour “in the face of the enemy” to armed forces members of various Commonwealth countries.

The Belgian Shepherd, was shot several timesĀ  on 18 November during a raid targeting the suspected organiser of the Paris attacks,

130 people were kiled during the assault on the French capital by Islamsist terrorists.

Very quickly after Diesel’s death, the hashtag #JeSuisChien, a riff on the world wide campaing Je Sui Charlie, that went viral after the earlier attack on the editorial office of French humor magazine Charlie Hebdo, was trending on twitter.

The dog was sent in the room where the police suspected the planners of the Paris attacks to be hiding out, to check if it was clear. His death likely saved the lives of his handler and other members of the police assault team.
