Americans in the age group of 25 to 55 are now more likely to get killed by a firearm than in a traffic accident. According to data provided by the National Center for Health Statistics (2013), homicides and suicides in which firearms were used, trumped traffic accidents as a cause of death.

Americans in the age group of 15-24, were almost as likely to die by firearm as by traffic accident. While traffic accidents accounted for 6510 deaths in 2013, gun related homicides and suicides accounted for 5914 deaths in the same year.
