In this Globalo special report, Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi explains the correlation between child labour and poverty and why thousands of children around the world are kept from going to school.

According to Satyarthi the use of children as cheap labour sets in motion a vicious cycle where kids compete with their parents for jobs and are often preferred by employers over their older family members because they are cheaper and more easily exploited.

Mr Satyarthi spoke in the presence of Malala with whom he shared the peace price in 2014.
